India: Government blocks Twitter accounts of US-based human rights organizations defending minorities
Twitter, formerly known as X, has complied with a legal demand from the Indian government and withheld the accounts of two United States-based human rights organizations, the Indian American Muslim Council and Hindus for Human Rights in India. The organizations, advocating on issues related to minority rights and caste inequality in India, received no explanation from Twitter regarding the demand. The move is based on Section 69 of India's Information
Technology Act, allowing the government to issue content-blocking orders to online
intermediaries if the content is perceived as a threat to national security, sovereignty, or public order. The affected organizations view this action as part of a broader crackdown on dissenting voices by the Modi regime, expressing concerns about the suppression of free expression and democracy in both India and the United States.
