JNU: Muslim student with disability alleges wardens called ABVP members to attack him during hostel eviction
Farooque Alam, a Ph.D. scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University, who is differently abled, was physically assaulted by both hostel wardens and members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) in Kaveri Hostel inside the campus on 6th September,.
Alam was subjected to brutal beating and was dragged by ABVP members after receiving a court judgment from the Kaveri Hostel warden about the incidents during the 2019 fee hike movement against the increased fee structure of JNU.
The wardens, in complete disregard of the fact that the proctorial judgment was under scrutiny in the court, tried to implement it. Wardens not only asked Alam to vacate the hostel but also came to his room, barged in, and threw his belongings. They also called the ABVP members and sought their help in compelling Alam to vacate his room, which he has been staying in for the past 12 years.
