Lakshadweep's sole Member of Parliament, Mohammed Faizal PP, faced disqualification from the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the Kerala High Court rejected his plea to suspend his conviction in a murder attempt case. This marks the second disqualification for the NCP leader within a year. The Secretariat bulletin announced his disqualification, citing the court order of October 3, 2023. Faizal had previously been disqualified in January after a Kavaratti sessions

court convicted him and three others for attempting to murder P. Salih. Despite a brief restoration

of his Lok Sabha membership in March, pending a Supreme Court appeal, the recent court decision has led to his renewed disqualification. Faizal has consistently denied the charges, accusing the administrator of conspiring against him. The initial conviction on January 11, 2023, had sentenced Faizal and three others to 10 years in jail with a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.
