Maharashtra: Hindu mob attacks and abuses Muslim cleric during Garba festival

Mohd Sharafat Khan, the Imam of Masjid Islamiya in Mumbai's Trombay area was verbally abused, chased, and nearly lynched by an enraged Hindu mob during the Garba festivities on October 22. Despite being escorted by two constables, Khan faced the attack when attempting to pass through the area. Garba is a devotional dance performed during Navaratri, primarily by

followers of the Hindu religion. Khan, in traditional attire with a skullcap, encountered the mob while trying to reach the bus stop to pick up his wife and daughter, who had undergone a medical diagnosis. The police's intervention proved ineffective, and the mob continued to hurl Islamophobic slurs and slogans.
