National: VHP demands discriminatory measures against Muslims at Garba festival
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has reiterated its demand, dating back to 2015, for the application of tilak on the foreheads and sprinkling of cow urine on entrants to Garba grounds as a means of distinguishing Hindus from non-Hindus. Garba, a traditional Gujarati dance, is performed during the Navratri festival. Additionally, VHP General Secretary Surendra Jain suggested making Aadhaar cards mandatory for participation in garba and dandiya events to prevent "love jihad," emphasizing the need to ensure the safety of women. The group has previously urged the exclusion of Muslims, even service providers, from Garba events, raising concerns about hate crimes during Hindu festivals.
