Madarasa demolished in Gujarat over land encroachment allegations. Local authorities in the BJP-ruled state  claimed that the Madrasa was built over state land. The building had existed since 1947 and was bulldozed on January 16 without any prior notice.

During the election campaign, BJP had boasted about using bulldozers against criminals and illegal encroachers in Gujarat. On January 16, the Gujarat government used bulldozers in several places. 36 commercial establishments and 6 Madrasas were demolished  in the Kutch region of the state.
