Kerala: Politicians and Hindutva groups spread anti-Muslim misinformation following Kerala blast
The police reportedly detained Muslim youths in the Ernakulam district of Kerala in connection with a blast at a Christian prayer meeting. The blast, orchestrated by a Christian youth named Martin Dominic against the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect, led to the deaths of three individuals. The detained Muslims Abdul Sathar and Nizam Panayikkulam faced preventive custody, with at least five individuals taken into custody based on police prejudice against the Muslim community.
Despite the perpetrator's confession and surrender, Muslims were held, leading to concerns about biased actions. Conflicting statements from police officers further raised questions about the legitimacy of the detentions. Social media and certain media outlets were accused of promoting Islamophobic narratives and creating false impressions about the incident. The detention in connection with the case, highlights a perceived prejudiced mindset of the Kerala police against Muslims.
