Kerala: Father of Muslim youth summoned by the NIA in train arson case found dead in a hotel room.
A man from Delhi, Muhammad Shafeeq, aged 46, whose son Muhammed Monis, 26, had been summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for interrogation in connection with the Elathur train arson case, was found dead in a hotel room in Kochi city on Friday morning.
The deceased, Mohammed Shafeeq, was a resident of Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Nagar, in South Delhi. The incident occurred in a hotel along K.P. Vallon Road in Kadavanthra. Shafeeq had accompanied his son Monis, who was summoned by NIA for questioning in the train arson case. Shafeeq and Monis had checked into the hotel on Tuesday. Monis was grilled by the central agency for the past two days at its office in Girinagar, though the NIA is yet to arraign him as an accused.
Monis was the classmate of the Elathur train arson case accused Shahrukh Saifi. In his statement to the police, Monis had reportedly said that his father was in a depressed state since they received the NIA summons.
