Madhya Pradesh: Khandwa court sentenced 37 Muslims to 7 years in prison

Location: Madhya Pradesh

The Sessions Court in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district sentenced 37 Muslims to seven years in prison for allegedly disregarding prohibitory orders invoked under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C.), taking part in “unlawful assembly” and “attacking” police personnel with “stones, sticks and axes” with a “premeditated” objective to cause injuries. Medical reports suggest that none of the police personnel suffered any grievous or life-threatening injuries. They had minor swelling and scratches (in some cases) on their fingers, arms and shoulders. There was no case of fracture or blood loss. It is also the case of the prosecution that one of the accused persons was dressed as a police official so as to give the illusion that they are cops.
