Maharashtra: Hindutva groups pressure institute to revoke award given to Kashmiri journalist

Safina Nabi, a Kashmiri journalist selected for a media award by Pune’s Maharashtra Institute of Technology-World Peace University (MIT-WPU), experienced an unexpected setback when her award was abruptly revoked just before the scheduled presentation ceremony. The university administration reportedly succumbed to pressure from Hindutva groups, resulting in the cancellation of the award for Nabi's article, 'The Half Widows of Kashmir,' which highlighted the struggles of Kashmiri women deprived of property rights. Despite travel arrangements being

made for Nabi, an unidentified faculty member contacted her to convey the award's cancellation, citing political pressure. The institute officials remained silent on the matter, and the jury was reportedly unaware of the decision.
