Maharashtra: NIA raids home of prisoners' rights activist Abdul Wahid Shaikh
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at the Mumbai home of Abdul Wahid Shaikh, a prisoners' rights activist known for advocating against fabricated cases involving Muslim youth in India. Shaikh, acquitted in the 7/11 blast case after spending nine
years in jail under anti-terror laws, faced a raid where individuals in police uniforms arrived at
his home and they refused to disclose their identities or provide warrants. The NIA raid, part of a broader operation in multiple states, aimed to dismantle modules of the banned organization Popular Front of India. The case is linked to disrupting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar last year. The NIA is conducting searches at several locations in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and various districts across Maharashtra.
