Owaisi Opposes Women's Reservation Bill Over Lack of OBC and Muslim Women Quota

Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), announced that his party would oppose the Women’s Reservation Bill introduced by the Union government in Parliament due to its lack of provisions for a sub-quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) women and Muslim women. The Union government presented the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2023, which aims to implement 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and all state Legislative Assemblies. This includes reserving one-third of the seats for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), as well as "as nearly as possible," one-third of the total seats in the general category. The proposed law is anticipated to be implemented by 2029.
