Uttar Pradesh: Police detain rights activist Mohammed Shoaib.

On Sunday morning, the Uttar Pradesh Police detained activist and lawyer Mohammed Shoaib, associated with the legal aid group Rihai Manch. He was taken into custody around 7:15 am by a group of police personnel who refused to provide information about the action to the family. After undergoing 16 hours of interrogation by the police and the Uttar Pradesh Anti-terrorism Squad (UPATS) at its headquarters, Shoaib was eventually released on Sunday night. Shoaib, the founder of the legal aid group Rihai Manch, is dedicated to working for marginalized communities. In December 2019, he was arrested in connection with protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and was granted bail on January 15, 2020.
